We have already talked about how a winning mac poker strategy is made up of three factors:
- Some basic ground rules (your personal Do’s and Don’ts)
- A bit of background knowledge about the table or site you’re playing at, and
- Your attitude.
In our post titled Mac Poker Strategy, we discussed some of the basic ground rules, and of course, we will return to that theme again. In the meantime, there are many tutorials at each of the best mac poker sites that offer further information about the basics for each type of poker game.
A solid online mac poker strategy is the key to your success. Playing poker strategically amps up the fun involved in the game as you become more mentally and emotionally involved in the result. It makes the game more stimulating and challenging. Online poker is a social game that requires you to understand your online mac poker player opponents in order for you to beat them.
Having some background knowledge about the table, and understanding your competitors, is the second part of your successful online mac poker strategy.
Unlike visiting a casino and playing opposite your opponents, reading the behaviors of online poker players requires different skills. While physical poker games require you to notice the body language of your opponents, online poker will need you to read the tells of your opponents in a different way.
When in doubt, it is usually a safe bet to assume that anyone who is pretending to come from a strong hand position probably has a weak hand. The opposite is also true, so an online mac poker player who does have a strong hand will usually try and pretend otherwise.
Here are two ways you can tell what your opponent has in their hand:
1. Instant responses
If a player instantly raises their bet, it is a good sign they are feeling confident with a strong hand. However, if a player instantly uses the auto-check function in a game it means they are ready to fold.
2. Calling a bet
When a player makes a call, it can be a sign that they have a fairly average hand to play. Remember, if they had a good hand they would have raised, so this may be a tactic to intimidate you. Don’t be sucked in and continue your betting hand as you normally would.
